When a loved one turns to harmful or criminal behavior, the pain is not only practical (loss, shame, legal trouble) but deeply emotional parents grieve the loss of the child they hoped to raise, wrestle with guilt, and fear for the future all because of one bad choice. Yet the same passage points to hope: prudence, repentance, and God’s guidance can restore what was broken.
 Shame and isolation: Parents often feel judged by neighbors, friends, and family.
Guilt and self-blame: They replay choices and wonder what they could have done differently.
 Fear and helplessness: Worry about safety, legal consequences, and the child’s future.
 Strained relationships: Marriages, siblings, and extended family can fracture under stress.
What helps: honest prayer, seeking wise counsel, professional counseling, community support, clear boundaries, and restorative steps that encourage accountability and rehabilitation. Grief over a child’s wrongdoing is real and heavy, but it need not be carried alone, faith, community, and practical help can turn sorrow toward healing. This is why it is so important to find a church home when your child is a newborn. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6
Dear Blessed Lord Jesus, we bring our broken hearts to You. Where foolish choices have caused pain, bring healing and truth. Comfort parents who carry shame and fear; give them courage, wisdom, and a steady hope. Soften the hearts of those who have gone astray; lead them to repentance, restoration, and right paths. Help families find practical support, honest accountability, and Your peace that steadies the soul. Guide all those who are wayward back to You and guide encouragement in their lives to stay on track with right living. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Mighty Precious Name Jesus Amen.
