This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

These verses call us to a love that is active and costly: to love others as Christ loved us. Greater love is shown when we put others before ourselves, and Jesus names obedience to his commands as the mark of friendship with him. Let this passage move you from warm feelings to concrete acts of service and sacrifice for those God places in your life.
Dear Blessed Lord Jesus, teach me to love as You loved, selflessly, faithfully, and obediently. Give me courage to lay down my comforts for others, wisdom to follow Your commands, and a heart that sees people as You see them. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Mighty Precious Name Lord Jesus Amen and Amen.
