If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
– John 15:6-7
Jesus uses the image of vine and branches to show how life flows from connection to him. A branch that stays joined to the vine receives nourishment and bear’s fruit; a branch cut off withers. The warning about being thrown into the fire is a solemn call to take our relationship with Christ seriously, it’s not meant to shame, but to awaken us to the reality that true life and power come from remaining in him. Verse 7 points to the promise that when Christ’s words shape us, our prayers and desires align with God’s will and bear lasting fruit. Let this passage move you to examine where you draw life from, to repent where you’ve drifted, and to pray for those who haven’t yet trusted so they might be drawn into the vine.
Dear Blessed Lord Jesus, You are the true vine; draw us close and keep us rooted in Your life. Give us faith where there is doubt, repentance where there is distance, and compassion for those who do not yet believe. Use our words and lives to point others to You, and by Your Spirit bring those who are far into Your saving love. Fill us with bold, loving obedience so Your fruit is seen in us. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Mighty Precious Name Lord Jesus Amen.
