This verse warns against pride and an overbearing spirit: when someone becomes self‑important they blind themselves to risk, correction, and the needs of others, and a downfall often follows. Pride precedes ruin, the proverb links inner attitude to outward consequence. A haughty spirit narrows judgment, resists wise counsel, and sets a person up for mistakes they might otherwise avoid. Person with God’s wisdom, stay teachable, invite feedback and weigh it before acting. They check motives or ask whether choices aim for service or status. They practice humility, acknowledge limits, credit others, and make room for correction. These verses also echoes the theme that humility protects and pride exposes. Proverbs 11:2 Easy; Proud and boastful people will be shamed, but wisdom stays with those who are modest and humble. Proverbs 18:12 Easy; A proud person will soon be ruined, but a humble person will be honored.James 4:6 Easy; But the kindness God shows is greater. As the Scripture says, “God is against the proud, but he is kind to the humble.” Each echoes the theme that humility protects and pride exposes.
Father God, give me a humble heart; guard me from pride and a haughty spirit.
Help me receive correction, choose wisdom over self‑importance, and walk in gentleness.
When I am tempted to boast, remind me of my need for You and for others. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name
Amen.
