{Let’s Pray: Father God, I thank You for all that You do in our lives. Let this message touch someone’s heart today in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
In John 7:1–13 describes Jesus’ surprisingly quiet entry to a major Jewish festival. Jesus’s brothers, other biological sons of Mary, tease Him about seeking publicity. Instead, Jesus attends alone, and does not teach or preach publicly until the middle of the week-long festival. We all have engaged with people like this in our life. Which is not surprising, because not everyone knows Jesus is God. So, pray for all those who don’t know. Pray from your heart when you stand in front of your opposers. Just saying. Jesus did! Jesus was one on one with God because He is God. Just saying. On one level, John 7:1-13 functions to set the stage for the rest of John chapters 7 & 8. It also reveals to us some wrong views about Jesus that the Jewish people, including Jesus’ own brothers, had about Him. What does John chapter 7 mean? Chapters 7 and 8 represent the beginning of the end of Jesus’ public ministry. In these passages, He will openly challenge the spiritual errors of the Jewish leaders and declare His own role in the salvation of mankind. In response, the religious officials’ approach to Jesus will turn further towards a plot for murder. John chapter 7 begins after another cross-over in the gospel’s timeline. The happenings of chapter 6 occurred around one year prior to Jesus’ crucifixion. The happenings of chapter 7, centered on the Feast of Booths/Tabernacles, happen about six months later. This feast was among the most important in Jewish tradition and was a hub of religious and cultural activity.
Let’s read: John 7:1-13
After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand. His brethren therefore said unto him, depart hence, and go into Judea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou does’. For there is no man that doeth anything in secret, and he himself seeks to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. For neither did his brethren believe in him. Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready. The world cannot hate you; but me it hated, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come. When he had said these words unto them, he abodes still in Galilee. But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, where is he? And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceives the people. Howbeit no man spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.
{Let’s Pray}
Father God, I thank You and praise You for the bible. I thank You and praise You that John held faithful to His brother in Christ “Jesus” for the Word of truth is not fiction at all. It Teach’s right from wrong. It Teach’s that not everyone is born to believe the truth. I thank You, praise You and give You all the glory for opening Scripture to my understanding. Thank You that Jesus came to earth and was prepared to suffer the ridicule sneers and shocking accusations from His own family members and His own nation, and to die on the Cross so that by grace through faith I and others might believe on His name and be saved. I thank You and praise You that Jesus came to live among His people and despite being rejected and crucified, is coming back to set up His eternal kingdom on earth. Give me a greater understanding of Your plans and purposes for mankind and myself, so that we may live and work for Your honor and glory. I thank You, praise You and give You all the glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
