“Praise For Jerusalem’s Restoration and Prosperity”

The theme of the psalm is a focus on the rebuilding of Jerusalem. The Story of Psalm 147. This psalm tells us something about God’s love and his power. Here, power does not only mean that he rules everything. It also means that he is very, very strong. It is the second of the 5 Hallelujah Psalms, 146-150. “Hallelujah” means “*praise the *LORD”. Psalm 147 is exclusively praise of the second type — praise that is sung about God. The purpose of this type of praise is testimony. The content of the testimony of Psalm 147 ranges between two poles — creation and redemption. In terms of creation, the psalm bears witness to God as the creator and the sustainer:
Psalm 147:1-20
Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathered together the outcasts of Israel. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. He tells the number of the stars; he calls them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. The LORD lifts up the meek: he casts the wicked down to the ground. Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: Who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains. He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. He delighted not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion. For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee. He makes peace in thy borders, and fills thee with the finest of the wheat. He sends forth his commandment upon earth: his word runs very swiftly. He giveth snow like wool: he scattered the hoarfrost like ashes. He castes forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold? He sends out his word, and melted them: he causes’ his wind to blow, and the waters flow. He showed his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
