“An Experience Of The Captivity”

Psalm 137 is a hymn expressing the yearnings of the Jewish people during their Babylonian exile (The Babylonian captivity or Babylonian exile is the period in Jewish history during which a number of Judahites of the ancient Kingdom of Judah were captives in Babylonia. After the Battle of Carchemish in 605 BCE, Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, besieged Jerusalem, resulting in tribute being paid by King Jehoiakim.). In its whole form of nine verses, the psalm reflects the yearning for Jerusalem as well as hatred for the Holy City’s enemies with sometimes violent imagery.

Psalm Chapter 137:1-9
By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion. How shall we sing the LORD’s song in a strange land? If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy. Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof. O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewarded thee as thou hast served us. Happy shall he be, that taketh and dashes thy little ones against the stones.

(Prayer)

Father God, It is sad how evil people can be, when they deliberately hurt someone or just brutally kill them for something just to do. It is sad to tear someone’s heart apart and get away with it. To those who want to destroy lives in any way shape or form. Lord I am believing You will deal with them as they deserve. We live in a sad world. I believe that if we believe in You nothing will befall us. I thank You and praise You that we should be silent around our accusers and enemies. Smile and walk on and make them really think about their actions. I thank You and praise Your ending to those in Captivity. Justice is Yours God and not mine is what I got from this Psalms. I know You will make all right in Your timing in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
