“A Petition to be Saved From Death”

It is described Psalm for the sons of Korah, a prayer for mercy and deliverance, and a Maschil. According to Martin Marty, a professor of church history at the University of Chicago, Psalm 88 is “a wintry landscape of unrelieved bleakness”. Psalm 88 ends by saying: You have taken my companions and loved ones from me; Chapter 88 This psalm is a lamentation, one of the most melancholy of all the psalms; and it does not conclude, as usually the melancholy psalms do, with the least intimation of comfort or joy, but, from first to last, it is mourning and woe. However, the hope this Psalm offers is not in its ending, but in its beginning. “ LORD, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry out to you .” ( Psalm 88:1 NIV) Before his laundry list of everything that’s going wrong, the Psalmist acknowledges that there is hope for salvation in the Lord, even when God appears silent.
Psalm Chapter 88:1-18
O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry; For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draws nigh unto the grave. I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength: Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou remembers no more: and they are cut off from thy hand. Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. Thy wrath lie’s hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah. Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. Mine eye mourns by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee. Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah. Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction? Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness. But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee. LORD, why casts thou off my soul? why hides thou thy face from me? I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted. Thy fierce wrath goes over me; thy terrors have cut me off. They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together. Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.
Father God, I am believing for those who feel like giving up on you because of their choices or others choices, let them know that no weapon formed against them shall prosper Isaiah 54:17 I believe. Let them know what choices belongs to them are their own and those choices that belongs to others, belong to others. Let them realize You are for them and not against them and that you will bring everything to light in Your timing. Let them believe in You and trust that everything will work out for Your glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
