“Prayer For Defense Against Enemies”

Summary Psalm Chapter 54: The key of this psalm hangs at the door, for the title tells us upon what occasion it was penned—when the inhabitants of Ziph, men of Judah (types of Judas the traitor), {Betrayed David to Saul, by informing him where he was and putting him in a way how to seize him. Find this in 1 Samuel chapters 23:1-4: When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors,” he inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” The LORD answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.” But David’s men said to him, “Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!” Once again David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him, “Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.”

“Psalm 54:1-7
Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength. Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah. Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul. He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth. I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good. For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.
Father God, I praise You and thank You for Your Inspiring Word and all the encouragement it gives, as well as the lessons I can learn from David, who trusted Your Word and stood firm on Your promises, even when being hotly pursued by evil, violent men who sought to destroy him. I praise You and thank You that You are my God, my Helper, and the Sustainer of my soul. Keep me from allowing the stresses and strains of life to doubt Your Word and keep my feet on the path of righteousness. I thank You, praise You and give You all the glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
